Diana Wallis - Liberal Democrat Member of the European Parliament for Yorkshire and the Humber

Local Euro MP: No surprise Humberside features so badly in survey

Humberside Airport

Commenting on the survey from the Civil Aviation Authority, which shows just 1% of passengers leaving from Humberside Airport used public transport,

local Euro MP Diana Wallis said she was not surprised by this low figure.

The Liberal Democrat MEP, who is a user of the airport, said:

"People are very reliant on private transport to reach Humberside Airport as public transport accessibility to the airport is extremely poor. There is no direct train link and even the bus timetable is quite perverse.

"For example, the flight from Amsterdam arrives at Humberside at 09.05 but the bus to Hull leaves a minute later at 09.06. I would defy anybody to get through passport control and baggage claim in a minute! The next bus leaves an hour later. It would be interesting to know just how many people are using this bus route which I suspect is being very heavily subsidised. The airport and the bus company are really are not helping themselves make a success of this."
