Local Liberal Democrat Euro MP Diana Wallis is supporting the Hull Daily Mail's campaign to scrap the Humber Bridge tolls and has signed the online petition the newspaper is running. She has been campaigning along similar lines for a couple of years now:

In January 2006 she saw the 25th birthday of the Humber Bridge as an opportunity to scrap the debt and reduce the tolls.

Her view being that if such bridge tolls were operating on a link between two member states of the European Union the tolls at this level would constitute a barrier to trade and therefore be illegal.
