Counterfeit pound coins - might we better off with the Euro?

Pile of counterfeit pound coins

Commenting on the high level of counterfeit pound coins now in circulation, Diana has a letter in today's 'Yorkshire Post' contemplating whether we might be better off with the Euro.

The letter in full:

Dear Sir,

It is interesting to see that while some two per cent of our pound coins are counterfeit, just 0.1 per cent of euro coins are affected in the same way.

I wonder if the conclusion we can draw is that, for this and other reasons, we would be better off with the euro?
