Local Liberal Democrat Euro MP Diana Wallis says FIFA Head Sepp Blatter's plans for limiting the number of foreign players are unworkable.

Diana Wallis MEP, a former lawyer and a Vice-President of the European Parliament, said:

"One of the key elements of the European Union is freedom of movement of people so that may they practice their trade or profession in any country of the EU. So Sepp Blatter's are unworkable. The European Commission is right to say that any move towards such discrimination on the grounds of nationality would be challenged in the courts.

"There are some who argue that adopting the Blatter's idea would be a way of improving the English national team. However, it could be that England's recent failures have been less to do with the quality of the players and more to do with the quality of the manager!

"I think a more appropriate way forward would be to encourage the development of club's academies along the lines suggested by UEFA."
